It is no myth that by setting some really tiny habits into place, you can literally change your life. I have.
Here are some of my favorites that have radically shifted how I act, react and live my life these days. Remember to celebrate what you do and forget about what you DID NOT do. Celebrations are not rewards, but how you feel in the moment of doing the behavior – a smile, a thumbs up, a silent “go me!”
Here you go:
- After I wake up and empty bladder and bowels, I will take three deep breaths.
- After I sense I am holding tension in my shoulders, I will take three deep breaths
- After the last student leaves the room ( I lead a class/workshop/session) I will think of one thing I did well
- After I drink my first cup of coffee or tea in the morning, I will write one sentence in my journal
- After I dry off from my shower/bath, I will look at myself in the mirror and say “I love you”
- After I get in bed, I will read one sentence in a book.
- After I say the first word as I begin leading a class, I will notice my heels pressing down into the ground
- After I brush my teeth at night, I will think of one thing for which I am grateful
- After I secure my spot in a long line, I will stand and think of one thing for which I am grateful.
- After I turn on lights in the evening, I will put on my blue-blocker glasses and think about how awesome my sleep will be.
- After I see my yoga mat in the basement, I will kick up into one handstand
- After I complete teaching a class, I will think of one thing I did well.
- After I pour a cup of coffee, I will jot down one person to connect with that day
- After I hear someone complain, I will say “what’s on your mind”
- After I hear someone start to speak directly to me, I will put aside what I am doing and really listen
